<김근희> K.(Keunhee Kim) Lee was born in Seoul, Korea. She received her BFA in painting from the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University in Korea. In 1990, she moved to the United States and graduated from the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. As a fine artist, she has held numerous exhibitions in both Korea and the United States and worked as a freelance illustrator. Her artworks can be found in children's books, magazines, calendars, and various other products.

서울대학교 서양화과를 졸업하고, 뉴욕 스쿨 오브 비주얼 아트(School of Visual Arts) 대학원에서 일러스트레이션(Illustration as Visual Essay)을 전공했습니다. 순수 회화 작가로서 소박한 일상과 잊혀져 가는 옛것들을 그림으로 기록하는 비주얼 에세이 작업으로 다수의 전시회를 열었으며, 미국과 한국의 창작 그림책 작가로 활발히 활동하고 있습니다. 그림은 말과 같이 자기의 마음과 생각을 표현하는 수단이라고 믿으며, 자신의 작업실에서 아이들과 함께 마음껏 그림을 그리는 자유로운 미술교실을 열어 왔습니다.
동료 화가이자 남편인 이담 선생님과 함께 작업한 책 《명량 해전의 파도소리》는 2010년 문화체육관광부 우수교양도서에 선정되었고 《엄마의 고향을 찾아서 Journey Home》는 1998년 미국 학부모협회 선정 도서상을 받았습니다. 최근 출간된 책으로는 《마음대로 그려봐》《조각보 같은 우리 집》《누구랑 놀까》《민들레와 애벌레》《장승 이야기》《겨레전통도감 살림살이》 들이 있습니다.
